Charter schools are schools of choice. Great Valley Academy shall admit all pupils who wish to attend the Charter School up to capacity. No test or assessment shall be administered to students prior to acceptance and enrollment into GVA. Except as provided in Education Code Section 47605(d)(2)(B), admission to GVA shall not be determined according to the place of residence of the pupil, or of his or her parent or guardian, within this State.
GVA shall be nonsectarian in its admission policies, employment practices, and all other operations, shall not charge tuition, and shall not discriminate against any pupil on the basis of the characteristics listed in Education Code Section 220 (actual or perceived disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic that is contained in the definition of hate crimes set forth in Section 422.55 of the Penal Code or association with an individual who has any of the aforementioned characteristics).
Prior to students being admitted into GVA, they and their parents are required to:
- Understand GVA’s educational program and philosophy by attending an information meeting. Information meetings will be offered at several different times to maximize parent attendance.
- Complete a Student Interest Form. Forms are obtained at the information meetings.
- Sign a parent/student Charter Compact. The purpose of this compact is to encourage the development of responsibility and respect in the students, encouraging each one to become a lifelong learner and productive citizen of the community.
